Why Should You Use Eco-Friendly Fashion?

There is a vast difference between products which are made up of and unsuitable for the environment and ecological products. The former are always made up of raw materials which are in a state of damage or non-reusable, the latter are those which are sustainable in nature but are still harmful to the environment. A lot of people make the mistake of confusing products which fall under this classification with those that are labelled as 'green', with the assumption that the latter are automatically good for the environment.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Greenwashing is one example where a company claims to be using only environmentally friendly ingredients when in reality the ingredients it uses could cause harm to the environment. If you have ever purchased goods which claim to be made from organic ingredients but contains pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals, then you may have unknowingly been subjected to 'greenwashing'. This is where a company uses the label green to make its products appear more friendly to the environment but in reality uses potentially harmful chemicals.

Another common problem is where an environmentalist claims that certain products are 'natural' but in fact contain ingredients that are very harmful to humans. This can be easily proven by going to Google and typing in the phrase 'natural ingredients' and using the quotes around the word natural. In the search engine result pages, you will find many different sites that claim to be able to provide you with 'natural ingredients'. Some sites are completely separate entities and are in fact run by corporations who wish to market organic products. Other sites are part of an Eco Web project which aims to promote organic, sustainable products at a global scale. When you click on one of these sites, you will be directed to a page with different categories which include sustainable food, home gardening, energy and water conservation, organic & eco product manufacturing, organic & eco medicines, natural cures, fashion and accessories, etc.

Ecologically sound products will not contain any chemicals or harmful synthetic substances that contribute to pollution and global warming. Products will also have high quality ingredients such as wild responsibly sourced materials, recycled materials, natural colorants and fragrances. Products sold in the market that are labelled as sustainable are most likely to be biodegradable. Sustainable products include paper, foods, and other items produced from sustainable forests. Paper is made from tree cuttings and trees that are not cut down for personal or business purposes.

Some people think that purchasing organic fashion means that they are being responsible environmentally. However, this is not the case as some organic materials can still lead to smog and acid rain. Many clothes are also manufactured from non-organic cotton, which leads to the use of pesticides and insecticides. When it comes to organic fashion, your choice of clothes should reflect your beliefs and convictions in regard to how you want to live your life. If you feel that you are responsible towards the environment, then you should seek to purchase organic clothing.

So do not assume that just because organic fashion has no harmful ingredients that it is equally safe to wear. The only way to know whether a particular product is eco-friendly is by making your purchase and seeing for yourself the chemical and nutrient content of the clothing. It is advisable to choose natural and ecological products that are available in your area. The Internet offers a wide variety of organic and sustainable fashion products that you can buy online.
